One man has died, and another has been taken to hospital after a major crash stopped traffic in both directions on the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
Emergency services received reports of a multi-vehicle crash on the bridge at about 1.40pm on Thursday and found three cars and a bus had collided.
NSW Police confirmed one man tragically died at the scene while another was rushed to hospital in a critical condition.
All lanes in both directions were closed before a rescue helicopter landed on the bridge just after 2pm.
The bus had no passengers on board, and the driver was able to walk away uninjured.
Footage of the crash’s aftermath showed three vehicles facing the wrong direction on the north bound lane.
Scrap metal and shattered glass littered both sides of the road as one man leant into the window of a white sedan that appeared to have crashed into the back of another car.
A lone wheel could be seen at least ten metres from the crash site.

Cars were brought to a standstill on the bridge as traffic slowly trickled into the one open lane travelling northbound.
Commuters have been warned to ‘avoid the area and use an alternative route if you can’.
‘The Sydney Harbour Tunnel remains open in both directions but traffic is heavy,’ Live Traffic NSW said.
More to come.
