Sydney Harbour tunnel closed after car crash and a CCTV failure

Sydney Harbour tunnel closed in BOTH directions causing traffic chaos for those trying to cross the city

The Sydney Harbour Tunnel has been closed in both directions after a crash and a technical issue with the CCTV system – causing huge delays for commuters.

Commuters have been urged to use the Harbour Bridge instead as hundreds of cars queue up in the tunnel on Tuesday morning.

At around 11.15am the camera monitoring system malfunctioned, closing the southbound lanes while a two-car crash in the Domain Tunnel at the same time prompted closure of the northbound entrance.

‘The Sydney Harbour Tunnel is closed in both directions due to a technical fault with the CCTV cameras. Traffic is heavy both directions,’ Live Traffic Sydney tweeted.

While the crash in the Domain Tunnel was cleared shortly after, the harbour tunnel remains closed in both directions.
