Sydney man charged with driving five times over the limit

  • A 45-year-old Sydney man has been arrested for driving five times over the limit 
  • The man was pulled over after officer spotted a 10-year-old boy on his lap
  • Officers also saw an eight-year-old girl seated in the back seat of the car
  • The father blew 0.248 when breath tested and is due in court on October 16

A father-of-two has been charged with drink driving after officers saw him driving with his 10-year-old son on his lap while five times over the legal limit.

The father-of-two was allegedly driving a black Volkswagen Golf on Bourke Street in Waterloo, Sydney, with the boy on his lap holding the steering wheel.

An  officer from the Motorcycle Response Team also saw eight-year-old girl in the back seat, NSW police said.

When the officer attempted to pull the car over, the driver allegedly failed to stop but continued, before being caught in traffic.

After approaching the driver, he and the two children got out of the car.

While attempting to arrest the man, he allegedly resisted arrest and further officers were called to assist, as seen in a video filmed by an onlooker.

The children appeared distraught while the man was arrested on the ground and can be heard screaming. 

The man is due to appear at Downing Centre Local Court on October 16 2017

He was taken to Redfern Police Station where he underwent a breath analysis and gave a reading of 0.248, police said.

The 45-year-old was charged with driving manner dangerous to the public, high-range drink-driving, and resisting arrest.

He is due to appear at Downing Centre Local Court on October 16.
