Sydney murder-suicide house hits the market a year later

The Sydney home where a mother, father, their two autistic children and dog were gassed last year is now on the market almost a year after the tragedy.

Fernando Manrique, 44, his wife Maria Lutz, 43 and their children Elisa, 11, and Martin, 10, were found gassed to death inside their home in Sir Thomas Mitchell Drive at Davidson on Sydney’s northern beaches on October 18.

David Hayden confirmed to the Daily Telegraph on Saturday that Stone Real Estate Forest had taken on the listing.

‘We will be marketing the property in the forseeable future,’ he said. ‘We’re well aware of the protocol and will offer full disclosure as required by law.’

Prior to being listed for sale, the property was being rented for $750 a week, considerably lower than the suburb’s median average of $950, according to RealEstate.com.

Private inspections at the property commenced approximately two weeks ago, according to a source at the Manly Daily.

The median house sale price for a Davidson property is now $1.595 million – and has grown 68 per cent in the last five years.

The house is described in a real estate listing as a ‘single-level family home embraced by idyllic gardens.’

However, Mr Hayden couldn’t confirm the price that will be set: ‘We are aware that the market for this property may be restricted due to the circumstances, so the market will decide the price.’

It is believed that Manrique had set up an elaborate system of pipes to pump odourless carbon monoxide into the house.

He was spotted working on the roof with power tools two days before the deaths, and gas bottles were found inside the kitchen.

Maria Lutz’s body was found in her bed next to that her daughter Elisa, while Martin was found in his bedroom with the family’s dead bull mastiff Tequila on the floor.

Manrique himself was found dead in the lounge room.

Police believe the parents had been struggling with the challenges of raising two non-verbal children and had drifted apart in the months before their deaths.

Maria Lutz had reportedly told friends she was desperate to return to her native Colombia to be closer to her family.
