  • The man was taken to hospital with a concussion and severe injuries on his face 

A search has begun for a man who violently coward-punched a stranger before sprinting away.

A man was attacked as he walked along Park Street in central Sydney with his friend at about 2.30am on Saturday.

Brutal CCTV footage showed the man being punched in the back of the head by a stranger, who then ran away.

The blow knocked the man unconscious and sent him falling to the ground.

The victim suffered severe facial injuries and concussion – including losing his teeth.

Superintendent Gavin Wood slammed the perpetrator, according to The Daily Telegraph, and pleaded for the man to come forward. 

‘What we saw is nothing short of horrific, we have an innocent 18-year-old man who has been hit by a coward,’ Supt Wood said.

‘The person that him, let’s make no mistake, is a coward. He ran a distance from behind him, hit him to the back of the head, it’s a cowardly act.’ 

Police do not believe the men knew each other prior to the attack.
