Sydney Opera House is evacuated after visitors noticed a ‘strong smell of gas’ inside the iconic building

  •  Fire and Rescue NSW said a gas technician is on the way to the building to assist
  • Fortunately no shows were on or interrupted at the time of the evacuation 
  • It’s understood the gas leak is coming from a small part of the iconic building 
  • Two fire trucks arrived on the scene while dozens of curious passersby watched 

Sydney Opera House was evacuated on Sunday afternoon after visitors noticed a ‘strong smell of gas’ coming from the building.  

Fire and Rescue NSW said a gas technician is on the way to assist. Fortunately no shows were on at the time of the evacuation.

‘We’re working with hazardous crews to establish where the leak is coming from,’ a spokesman said.

Two fire trucks, one ambulance and the hazmat response unit arrived on the scene while dozens of curious passersby watched on. 

It’s understood the gas leak is coming from a small part of the iconic building.
