This is the moment a furious P-plater leaves his car on a busy highway to repeatedly punch another driver in a shocking road rage attack.

Witnesses filmed the agitated driver jump out of his vehicle on the Hume Highway in Chullora, Sydney’s west, and rush toward a motorist before firing a powerful hit through his open window.

The man is seen delivering a series of blows to the defenceless driver who then tries to follow his attacker but instead collapses onto the road unable to walk.

Police described the terrifying recording as one of the worst road rage incidents ever caught on film.

‘This is probably the most significant piece of footage that I have seen,’ Chief Inspector Phil Brooks told 7 News.

Police were able to identify the injured man but are yet to locate the violent.

In a statement to police, the victim claims the driver of the Toyota Camry cut him off and words were then exchanged.

He says it was after he began filming the confrontation that the man left his car, beat him and took his phone.

Officers want to speak to the man who appears in the footage but the driver assaulted did not want to press charges.
