Sydney Sweeney is ‘excited’ for the third season of Euphoria… after her horror film Immaculate opens in fourth place at the box office

Sydney Sweeney has answered a few questions about the upcoming third season of HBO Max’s Euphoria.

During the Sydney Sweeney in Conversation with Josh Horowitz event at The 92nd Street Y in New York City earlier this week, the Anyone But You actress 26, discussed the popular show.

They talked about Immaculate, which she stars in and produces – and they also briefly touched on the upcoming third season of Euphoria – though there wasn’t much she could say about it.

‘Honestly, it’s, like, as scary as talking about Marvel,’ Sweeney joked. ‘I said one thing, and it went everywhere.’

Horowitz told her that the fans are very excited for the new season, which led Sydney to quip: ‘I’m excited too.’

Sweeney plays Cassie Howard on the popular series that also stars Zendaya, Hunter Schafer, Jacob Elordi and Maude Apatow.

‘I love Cassie. Cassie truly is a dream to play and as an actor, I’m so fortunate that I’ve had a character like her at such a young age,’ she continued. ‘And, of course, I wanna keep living her crazy [life]. I love it.’

Euphoria was renewed for its third season in February 2022 but is not expected to hit Max until 2025.

Meanwhile, Sydney’s horror film Immaculate finished fourth at the weekend box office with $5.3 million in 2,354 theaters.

While her career is white hot, the horror genre is less dependent on big name stars than other genres.

‘They’re driven by the hook: the evil doll, the wicked smile, the invisible or silent presence, the found footage, the possessed child,’ said David A. Gross of the movie consulting firm Franchise Entertainment Research, per Variety.

He continued: ‘That’s what terrifies the horror crowd. The hook is not completely clear here.’

The Euphoria star plays an American nun who joins a remote convent in the Italian countryside and soon discovers her new home harbors some dark secrets.

Sydney got both of her grandmas roles as extras in her new film and took them to the premiere in Los Angeles.

‘I flew them to Italy, and they got to come visit me on set. I made them extras as nuns,’ she said. ‘And then I brought them to the premiere in L.A. They were just so excited.’

After her rom com Anyone But You became a breakout hit, her role as a nun named Cecilia in the horror film is a big change.

‘It’s a challenging character; it’s an interesting story. I loved the horror genre. It’s exciting,’ she explained.
