A truck has burst into flames after a collision on the M5 motorway near Sydney Airport, causing huge traffic delays as firefighters work to manage the blaze.
The truck reportedly hit a barrier just before midday, bursting into flames and spilling oil onto the busy road as commuters made their way into the city.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus are working to manage the blaze, roughly 200 metres out of the M5 East tunnel.
All westbound lanes and two citybound lanes were initially closed as traffic banked up hundreds of metres.
As of 2pm, both westbound lanes remained closed.
‘The trees alongside of the M5 are catching fire, there’s big black smoke spewing from it, tyres popping,’ witness Jerry told 2GB radio.
‘It’s chaos.’
