Sydney woman finds maggots in her KFC chicken meal

A woman has vowed never to buy a meal from KFC again after finding maggots crawling in her leftover fried chicken.

Elena Sevilla from the western Sydney suburb of Plumpton ordered 100 Wicked Wings and 10 pieces of Original Recipe chicken to celebrate her son’s 18th birthday.

She chose to purchase the Friday evening meal online and in bulk to save money because the family were catering, Seven News reports.

The night went off without a hitch and the food was a delight to party goers, but it was Ms Sevilla’s discovery on Saturday morning that really turned her stomach.

She instantly notices something moving.

‘I thought – ‘what’s this? Something’s moving in there’,’ Mrs Sevilla said. ‘I completely lost my appetite from there. I couldn’t eat anything.’

Maggots were crawling through the poultry dish, causing the Sydney mother to proclaim ‘now I’m going to throw this away.’

She said the box of chicken had barely been touched the night before and couldn’t work out how long the maggots had been there.

Either way, the experience has turned her off the fast food chain for good.

‘I was really surprised but I want people to be aware that these yucky, disgusting things were found in KFC,’ she said.

KFC told Daily Mail Australia they were ‘dismayed’ at the video.

‘We are dismayed to see the footage but it’s unlikely this situation happened in-store. KFC works closely with leading Australian forensic entomologists to understand flies to ensure our in-store cooking and food handling practices are robust so we can keep our food safe,’ they said.

‘Their latest studies show that flies only deposit eggs in food with temperatures between 10 degrees Celsius and 40 degrees Celsius. We hold our raw chicken below these temperatures and our cooked chicken well above so again, it’s unlikely this situation happened in-store. We are trying to make contact with the customer so that we can investigate further.’
