Sydney’s Ferry McFerryface crashed into Balmain wharf

Sydney’s most notorious ferry, Ferry McFerryface, has continued its bad run after crashing into Balmain East wharf.

The new ferry, which has been at the centre of controversy for months because of its name, is now being inspected for damages at the Balmain shipyards.

None of the 60 passengers or crew were injured in the crash but Ferry McFerryface suffered minor damages when it collided with the wharf, the Daily Telegraph has reported.

The Sydney ferry everyone loves to hate has continued its bad run by crashing into a wharf at Balmain

The ferry was given its contentious name after Transport Minister, Andrew Constance, announced that it had won the $100,000 public vote, but it was later revealed that he had picked the name out himself.

After a huge amount of public backlash to the ill-fated captains call it was announced that the ferry will soon be renamed.

The 11am crash meant that passengers travelling on the ferry had to be transferred from Balmain East to Barangaroo and Pyrmont Bay by the vessel Friendship, which was not operating a timetabled service at the time.

‘The vessel has returned to the Balmain Shipyard where shipyard staff will inspect the damage,’ a spokesperson for Harbour City Ferries said.

‘The incident is currently under investigation and crew is undergoing mandatory drug and alcohol testing.’

Harbour City Ferries says that it is not yet known when the boat will be back in service.

The name Ferry Mcferryface won a mere 182 votes in the public naming competition.

After the name was widely ridiculed, Mr Constance officially renamed the ferry May Gibbs after the children’s author. The new name has not come into effect yet.

Once news of the crash broke, people took to social media to comment on the ferry’s continuous mishaps.

‘So even the ferry didn’t want to live with that name,’ one user wrote.

‘Must of been off his Mcferryface,’ said another.
