Syria crisis LIVE: Russia claims chemical attack was staged by Britain

Britain could begin a bombing campaign in Syria after Bashar al-Assad’s use of chemical weapons on his own people last week.

Theresa May won the backing of her Cabinet to intervene in the conflict last night, although Donald Trump and Emmanuel Macron both said no ‘final decision’ has been made on Syria.

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn has accused May of ‘waiting for instructions’ from the US and has urged her to support a ‘independent UN-led investigation’ before making a final decision.

Both May and Trump have agreed that whatever the final decision on airstrikes, the Syrian regime must not go unchallenged following the chemical weapons attack which left at least 80 dead.
