Scotland sent into a spin by Mujeeb magic as Afghanistan crush Kyle Coetzer’s side by 130 runs in their first Super 12s outing at the T20 World Cup

Scotland were brought back down to earth at the T20 World Cup after succumbing to the spin of Mujeeb Ur Rahman, who propelled Afghanistan to a crushing 130-run victory in Sharjah on Monday. 

Kyle Coetzer’s side had caused shockwaves by reaching the Super 12s, beating sixth-ranked Bangladesh en route.

But the Scots were outclassed by Afghanistan in their first international since the Taliban regained control of the country.

Najibullah Zadran’s 59 from 34 balls lifted Afghanistan to a tournament-high score of 190 for four, then Mujeeb took centre stage with three top-order wickets in an over. 

Scotland slumped from 28-0 to 38-6 as masterful Mujeeb finished with career-best international figures of five for 20. 

Rahmanullah Gurbaz struck an imperious 46 from 37, including four maximums, while Mujeeb’s fellow spinner Rashid Khan took four wickets for nine runs in his 2.2 overs.
