A popular Taiwanese artist living in New Zealand who raped and sexually abused his young students has been jailed for 16 years.

William Chao-li Tseng, 50, was found guilty of a number of charges including rape against three teenagers and one underage person, Stuff reported.

His sentence was handed down by Judge Brooke Gibson at Auckland District Court on Thursday.

Tseng will be deported to Taiwan after serving a non-parole period of eight years.

The judge said the offences were pre-meditated over a two-year period.

The victims were enrolled by their parents in Tseng’s art classes.

‘You abused their trust and you let yourself down in terms of the reputation you built up over many years,’ Judge Gibson said.

‘They were unable to disclose what you were doing… you had them completely under control.’
