Tampa breweries are making KRISPY KREME beer

You definitely could not call these ‘light’ beers.

Two Tampa Bay, Florida-area bars have combined their talents — and their sweet tooth tendencies — to collaborate on a new limited-edition beer that’s made with actual Krispy Kreme doughnuts.

Hidden Springs Ale Works and Arkane Aleworks are both still in the process of brewing the Russian imperial stout with the sugary treat, and expect it to be in available to buy by January.

Just after Thanksgiving, Hidden Springs teased what’s to come on its Facebook page with a picture of chopped-up doughnuts.

‘We may or may not be putting actual Krispy Kreme doughnuts into the #russianimperialstout,’ the wrote. ‘Ok, we are. We did. It happened.’

The 12.5 percent ABV beer is set to be ready in January, when it will be on draft and available to buy in bottles for $25.

‘It’s going to be roasty, chocolatey, hopefully with some doughnut flavor,’ Hidden Springs founder Josh Garman told the Tampa Bay Times. ‘We’re actually hoping to get some of the glaze from the Krispy Kremes to come through.’

They even got Krispy Kreme to sign off on the concept, though the company didn’t appear to be any help when it came to naming it.

‘We have some we’re kicking around, but we’ll come up with some sort of funny name for it,’ Garman added.

This isn’t the first time either brewery has come up with something sweet and unusual for its adventurous visitors. Hidden Springs customers love its Deja Moo, a milk stout with chocolate, and it’s been made in gingerbread and peanut butter varieties as well.

They’ve also had the S’Mores Hey Porter, a porter with toasted marshmallow, graham cracker, and chocolate, and the Fluffer Nutter Hey Porter, a porter with marshmallow and peanut butter.

Meanwhile, Arkane Aleworks has come up with some truly eyebrow-raising concoctions for sugar lovers.

They’ve brewed stouts with Butterfingers, Reese’s, Mounds, Paydays, and Snickers, as well as ales with Nerds, Sour Patch Kids, and Skittles.
