Tasered grandmother::Senior constable faces three charges

Senior constable is charged with ‘recklessly’ harming 95-year-old grandmother after he Tasered her and left her needing end of life care

The senior constable who Tasered 95-year-old great grandmother Clare Nowland has been charged by homicide detectives.

Ms Nowland, a dementia sufferer who weighs just 43kg, had been holding a steak knife when she ‘slowly’ approached a police officer at the Yallambie Lodge in southern NSW just after 4am last Wednesday. 

Senior Constable Kristian White, 33, then blasted a taser on Ms Nowland, prompting her to collapse to the ground, knock her head and suffer a bleed to the brain. She is receiving end of life care in hospital.

White was charged on Wednesday evening with recklessly causing grievous bodily harm, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and common assault.

He is due to appear at Cooma Local Court on Wednesday 5 July 2023.

The officer remains suspended from duty with pay.

Investigations into the critical incident continue.
