Tatler reveals the ‘Sloaniest’ items on sale at Poundland

  • Tatler has revealed the items that posh people are willing to buy at Poundland
  • The list includes a ball of wool, glitter paint and a jar with a straw
  • A head torch is also recommended for ‘drunken’ strolls on the estate

Targeted at the well-heeled any products featured in the pages of Tatler are usually destined for the shelves of Harrods.

However, it appears that even Sloanes are prepared to rough it when it comes to certain products.

In its latest issue the society bible has included a list of the poshest products on sale in Poundland.

Tatler has released a list of items that Sloanes would be prepared to buy from Poundland

Describing the upper class as ‘surprisingly thrifty’ the magazine has listed seven products that they are prepared to enter the bargain store for.

Topping the list is a piece of interior decor not sourced from Laura Ashley but rather from the aisles of the bargain store in the form of a slogan plaque.

It reads ‘Remember as far as anyone knows, we are a nice normal family’ in a palette of charcoal grey and dusky pink.

Describing the product the magazine writes: ‘This plaque would hang in the kitchen, alongside cushions, mugs and aprons emblazoned with witty phrases about dogs.’

Other items include a jar with a straw in order to Instagram health-rich meals and a glitter paint for those heading to festivals over the summer.

Some may be surprised to see a money box feature on the list but writer Harriet Kean points out it is not to be used for saving pennies.

The cylindrical tin decorated with a postage stamp pattern is to be used as ‘swear jar’ of sorts.

Kean writes: ‘Instead of a swear box (because Sloanes love a four-letter rant), buy this – and every time someone says ‘lounge’ or ‘serviette’, make them put 50p in the tin.’

Another unusual item featuring on the list is a head torch, but rather than pack it for a camping trip Tatler readers are encouraged to use it while exploring their estate.

The description reads: ‘A head torch is essential for drunken midnight strolls around your estate, to make sure you don’t trip over the alpacas.’
