EXCLUSIVE

A PE teacher accused of sexually abusing a male student has been spotted living under strict bail conditions which ban her from leaving home without her parents.

Tayla Brailey, 30, was arrested last Tuesday over the alleged sexual abuse of a 17-year-old boy she taught at Lurnea High School in Sydney’s south-west.

Eight days after her arrest, she was seen in Wollongong on Wednesday, looking glum as she visited a café in Kieraville with her parents, where they met her sister.

She wore a hoodie promoting mental health awareness, featuring the slogan ‘Brothers Don’t Let Brothers Fight Alone’.

The hoodie is merchandise from local suicide prevention charity Talk2MeBro, a cause her family has supported on social media for years.

The Wollongong charity was invited to speak to Lurnea High School students in October 2020, with Brailey writing on Instagram at the time: ‘Was awesome to have you guys today! Thanks again for the amazing presentation!’

Under Brailey’s bail conditions, she has to live with her mum and dad, can only leave home if accompanied by her parents, must abide by a nighttime curfew, and has to surrender her passport.

Tayla Brailey, 30, has been spotted out and about around Wollongong a week after she was granted bail

She is also barred from accessing social media, entering Lurnea, contacting her alleged victim or any prosecution witnesses, being on any educational facility, or being in the presence of a minor unless the child is in the company of a parent or guardian.

She is also required to make three weekly visits to Wollongong Police station.

Brailey, who only married in September, is accused of sexually abusing a boy on three occasions in July, including at her West Wollongong home and in a car at Lurnea.

Police will allege she began speaking to the boy after he added her on Snapchat, before the pair began exchanging sexually explicit videos.

According to documents referenced in court last week, police will allege a friend who accompanied her alleged victim to her home in mid-July walked in at one stage while she was performing a sex act on him.

Police will also allege she had sex with the boy in a car after he wagged school to meet her before she went to a pharmacy to get the morning-after pill.

Brailey married her partner in September last year after getting engaged in December, 2021

According to the documents, police will allege she became ‘hysterical’ and made admissions to officers when they confronted her at the school last week with the allegations.

The court heard she also allegedly made admissions about speaking to two other students on social media.

Brailey was charged with sexual touching, sexual intercourse with a person under care, and aggravated sexual assault, and spent the night locked up in Amber Laurel Correctional Centre before she was granted bail last Wednesday.

Her matter is next due before Liverpool Local Court on October 2.
