Teacher who groomed two pupils at his school avoids jail

A perverted teacher who asked one of his pupils to film himself taking part in an internet sex game in exchange for £500 has avoided jail.

Luke Cannon from Doncaster groomed a girl under the age of 16 and a boy over the age of 16 who both attended the same South Yorkshire school he taught at.

The 27-year-old’s first asked his male victim to send explicit videos of himself, then asking him to film himself participating in a ‘sexual challenge made famous on the internet’ for £500.

The 27-year-old, left, had offered to pay a pupil £500 to perform a sex game and sent him explicit pictures and videos in response

The boy was never paid by Cannon despite filming the deed, after which the teacher sent explicit images and videos of himself back to the victim.

After exchanging messages with his female victim, Cannon started to ask for pictures of herself in her underwear.

Prosecuting, Mr Baird told Sheffield Crown Court how Cannon had groomed girl.

‘After learning she had seen 50 Shades of Grey he told her that if she wanted to know what the headteacher had said about it she should send him a picture of herself,’ he said.

‘She sent him a picture of herself in her bra and pants – and he sent her a picture of him in his boxers.’

Cannon was arrested at the school he worked at on December 6, 2016, after his victims, who cannot be named for legal reasons, contacted the police.

After initially making no comment in police interviews, Cannon pleaded guilty to three sex offences including causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity at an earlier hearing.

Cannon lost his job after police officers arrested him at the school ‘in full glare of staff and pupils’.

Ian Goldsack, defending, said: ‘He’s also been subject to notification requirements, and will also go through the barring process in relation to the teaching career he hoped to pursue.’

Judge Joseph Reeds, QC, sentenced the teacher to complete 125 hours of unpaid work and a 25 day rehabilitation order.

The judge said he believed Cannon ‘stood more chance of receiving the help he needed through a community order’.
