Teacher who ‘makes learning fun’ had affair with student

A Toronto area teacher has been charged with three counts of sexual assault and sexual exploitation after she was found to have allegedly had an affair with a teenage student. 

Police first received a tip back on January 26 about 28-year-old Marianna Riossi, who was listed as a high school supply teacher with the York District Catholic School Board. 

Listed as being ‘in a relationship’ on her Facebook – according to Canoe.com – the tip clued authorities of the possible affair. 

Riossi was said to be linked with the male student, last year, between October and December. She was listed as being employed at St Theresa of Lisieux.

‘These allegations are certainly upsetting for YCDSB,’ board spokesman Sonia Gallo said in a statement.

‘We take very seriously our responsibility to ensure a safe and respectful working and learning environment for all our students and staff. 

‘Ms. Riossi was immediately removed from her teaching assignment, and is currently on leave, as per board practice.’ 

 It was not released which school the student attended. 

Riossi has been in good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers. She has had her teacher certification since 2012. 

The Vaughn native also has a 4.76 out of 5 rating on ratemyteacher.com, with a user posting that she ‘makes learning fun.’
