Although the 30-year-old failed on her second and third efforts, it still remained enough to lock up a bronze medal finish with a total of 288kg and celebrated with a cartwheel.

China’s Wenwen Li took home the gold having successfully lifted 136kg in the snatch and 173kg in the clean and jerk to give her a total of 309kg.

Li’s 309kg was 10kg more than silver medalist Hyejeong Park of South Korea, who lifted 131kg in the snatch but only 168kg in the clean and jerk.

Campbell was successful in all three of her snatch attempts, lifting 119kg, 123kg and finishing off with 126kg.

After Campbell was unable to hoist 174kg, Li knew she had wrapped up victory and declined to lift the bar on her third attempt.

Instead, she bowed to the crowd before bringing up her coach on stage and hoisting him high into the air.

Campbell’s bronze in Paris took her Olympic medal tally to two having claimed silver at the Tokyo Games in the 87+kg category.

There was also a wholesome moment during the medal ceremony as Campbell and Park gestured towards Li, who jumped for joy on the podium.
