Team GB’s predicted medals total is REVEALED, as stats boffins forecast them finishing behind hosts France in the table at Paris 2024… so which stars do they tip for gold?

  • Sports data firm Gracenote have published virtual medal table forecasting
  • With 100 days to go until Paris, Team GB are tipped for more than Tokyo
  •  That said, Brits are only predicted to bring home 13 golds in total

Team GB have been tipped to bring home 66 medals from this summer’s Olympics – beating their tally from Tokyo.

With 100 days to go until the Games in Paris, sports data firm Gracenote have published their virtual medal table forecasting Great Britain will finish fourth, behind USA, China and hosts France.

However, they have predicted that Team GB will only collect 13 golds, way down on the 22 they won at Tokyo 2020, when they also finished fourth in the medal table.

If Gracenote’s forecast proves to be correct, it would be the fourth straight Olympics in which Team GB have landed 60 or more medals. After their post-war record of 65 at London 2012, they achieved their best overseas tally of 67 at Rio 2016, before claiming 64 in the delayed Tokyo Games three years ago.

As well as 13 golds at Paris 2024, Team GB are tipped to win 23 silvers and 30 bronzes. At Tokyo 2020, it was 22 golds, 20 silvers and 22 bronzes.

BMX racer Bethany Shriever is tipped to defend her title at the 2024 Olympics

Their medal tally in Tokyo was originally 65, but the silver they won in the men’s 4x100metres relay was struck off following CJ Ujah’s failed drugs test.

Gracenote predict that Britain’s seven individual gold medallists in Paris will be Bethany Shriever (BMX), Joe Clarke and Kimberley Woods (canoe slalom), Oliver Townend (equestrian), Joe Choong (modern pentathlon), Bradly Sinden (taekwondo) and Bryony Page (trampolining).

Team GB’s six other predicted gold medals come from team events – the women’s madison and women’s team pursuit in cycling, and the rowing events of men’s pair, men’s four, men’s eight and women’s lightweight double sculls.

No gold medal is forecast in athletics, which would be the second successive Olympics in which Britain have not secured a track and field title.

Gracenote forecast that USA will top the medal table for the eighth straight Games with 123 medals – 39 golds, 37 silvers and 47 bronzes.

China are predicted to win 35 golds and 89 medals altogether, while hosts France are tipped to get 28 golds and 55 medals overall.

Gracenote, a company owned by US market research giant Nielsen, make their predictions using a statistical model based on individual and team results in previous Olympics, World Championships and World Cups.

Great Britain are also forecast to win four golds in rowing in Paris this summer

Great Britain are also forecast to win four golds in rowing in Paris this summer

They said: ‘The Gracenote Virtual Medal Table for Paris 2024 suggests that Great Britain can sustain its winning performance of 60 or more medals for a fourth successive Olympic Games.

‘British success over the past three Olympic Games has been built on having medal winners in at least 20 sports and the current VMT forecast, for medal winners in 22 sports, suggests that this is set to continue.

‘Prior to the 2012 Olympic Games, Great Britain won medals in at least 20 sports only in London in 1908, which was a very different Olympic era.’
