Two teenagers are being investigated in relation to a fire that completely destroyed a home on Anzac Day and left firefighters requiring medical treatment.

The teens were reportedly seen fleeing the home in Southport on the Gold Coast shortly after the North Street home became engulfed in flames about 10.40am.

One firefighter overheated while fighting the ferocious blaze and had to be treated on the scene by paramedics after being carried from the premises.

Police said there was no one inside the house at the time, with it understood to be an abandoned property. 

There was, however, fears the building could contain harmful asbestos, prompting crews to advise onlookers to move away and the street to be closed.

‘One of those we have in our custody and he will be assisting with our investigation,’ Queensland Police senior sergeant Brett MacGibbon said.

‘We have not made contact with the owner of the premises.

‘We believe no persons were inside the house.’
