Teen is charged with murder of special effects film worker

A 17-year-old was charged with murder this week in connection to the death of a special effects film technician in July. 

Joseph Livolsi was found with gunshot wounds in his right rib cage, chest and head in an Eastwyck Village apartment on July 15, according to DeKalb police.

Delvin Gates, 17, who lived near Livolsi, was charged recently with murder in Livolsi’s death.

Police believe Livolsi was killed during a burglary, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. 

Livolsi, who worked on films including Captain America: Civil War and Ant-Man, was found dead in an upstairs hallway by his cousin.

He had been scheduled to start on a new project but never showed up for work when his family went to check on him. 

Authorities noted that an Xbox console had been removed from the home and a speaker was seen out of place on the floor.

At the time, a witness told police he had heard noise from the apartment around 11pm.

The witness said he also heard what sounded like firecrackers.

But when he looked out his window, he didn’t see any unusual activity, according to the AJC. 

Livolsi had been in the film industry for 20 years, according to his IMDb page. 

His recent credits include Rampage and The Fate of the Furious, both starring Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson.

Livolsi had worked on more than two dozen blockbuster hits since 2002.
