A teenager from a prestigious Melbourne school has been killed and another rushed to hospital following a single-car collision in Melbourne.
St Kevin’s College schoolboy Hector Ryan, 18, died after losing control of the vehicle he was driving, before it slammed into a tree in Malvern East early Friday morning.
His passenger, an 18-year-old man from Ashburton, is in stable condition after being taken to The Alfred hospital with hand and leg injuries, The Age reports.

Emergency services were called to Moira Street around 1am after reports a car had struck a tree, police said.
However, paramedics were unable to save the Glen Iris teenager who died at the scene.
‘It was a really loud crash or bang… When I heard the ambulances coming I knew that something wasn’t right,’ a witness told Nine News.
Officers examined the crash scene overnight, with pieces of wreckage seen strewn along the road beside the crumpled vehicle.
Mr Ryan’s father reportedly attended the scene of the crash Friday morning, along with some of the teen’s friends who left floral tributes.
The Year 12 student was said to be close to finishing his VCE exams and had been planning on going camping to celebrate.

Shocked friends still coming to terms told Fairfax that Mr Ryan was ‘lovely’ and ‘a sensible type of teenager’.
A Moira Street resident who phoned the ambulance after hearing the crash said many people, including her 20-year-old daughter who sat with the passenger, had tried to help.
Police said they are investigating if speed and weather conditions contributed to the collision.
‘Victoria police urges all drivers to show care, due attention to the road and drive to the conditions, their level of experience and competence,’ Sergeant Roberto Zussa told Nine.
As many as 213 lives have been lost on Victorian roads this year to date, which is 38 less than last years final toll.
