A teenager who was allegedly dragged from a car and stabbed in the stomach with a broken beer bottle is in a serious condition in hospital.

The man, 18, was allegedly forced from a car and stabbed with broken glass by a 17-year-old boy in North Booval in Ipswich, southwest of Brisbane, at 11.30pm on Saturday.

Police allege there was a struggle between the pair following the stabbing before the alleged attacker fell on broken glass.

The victim, who police believe knew the 17-year-old, was taken to Princess Alexandra Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

The alleged attacker was taken to the same hospital and charged with one count of grievous bodily harm.

He will be dealt with under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act.
