A teenager was killed when a 14-year-old boy rolled a 4WD several times in a horrifying crash that injured two other children.

The male passenger, 16, died in the crash north-west of Emerald, in Queensland’s Central Highlands, about 6pm on Friday.

Two other passengers, both 14, were rushed to hospital along with the driver.

Police will allege the 4WD was travelling along a dirt road when the underage driver lost control of the vehicle.

Early indications indicate the car rolled several times before crashing.

Emergency services performed first aid on the critically injured passenger, but he died at the scene a short time later.

Investigations conducted by the forensic crash unit continue and a report will be prepared for the coroner.

In early December last year, a man, 48, died after the car he was travelling in crashed into a tree at Emerald.

Investigations suggest the man’s car failed to negotiate a bend and he crashed into a tree before dying at the scene.
