A teenager was given a lift to her prom by the police following a last-minute issue with her planned transport

Scarlett Thomas, 16, who has severe illnesses which can be life limiting, was picked up in Norton and taken to her prom at Abbey Hill Academy in Stockton, Teesside, on Friday 30 June.

PC Bell from Cleveland Police Roads Policing Unit stayed behind after his shift had ended to ensure that Scarlett could get to her prom, after a last-minute issue with her planned transport.

Scarlett’s parents, Katherine and Alan, said: ‘Scarlett has a real love for any emergency services and to be able to have an escort from Cleveland Police to her prom is something she will never forget.

‘The family are so thankful and grateful that Cleveland Police could make her day so special.’

PC Bell said: ‘We were happy to assist in getting Scarlett to her prom, after she had transport problems at the last minute.

‘It’s a special night for all school leavers and shouldn’t be missed, so we’re pleased that Scarlett could get there and have a great time with her friends at her prom.’

It comes after police officers gave two brides a lift to their ceremony after the coach carrying the bridal party broke down last month.

Two brides in Hedge End, Southhampton, were worried to miss their wedding after their coach broke down on St John’s Road but the police’s neighbourhood team came to the rescue.

Hedge End Police said in a Facebook post: ‘The brides were understandably very worried that they were going to miss their wedding…

‘We told them to hop in to the police car and we gave them a lift in style to their wedding venue, arriving with minutes to spare.
