A masked teenager who tied up and raped his neighbor at knifepoint and then offered to carry out yard work to make up for it has been jailed for 50 years.
Timothy Adam Walding used a fish-hook to pick the lock of the victim’s West Boynton home in South Florida, and raped the 35-year-old mother-of-two for 90 minutes before removing his mask and revealing his identity.
After forcing the woman to perform sex acts on him, Walding suggested he could make it up to her by doing some landscaping or repairs around her home. She declined but shook his hand and agreed not to tell anyone what had happened.
When the then 18-year-old walked home, the traumatized mother dialled 911.
Walding showed no remorse as he was jailed for life, with no prospect of early release before his 70th birthday at Palm Beach County courtroom Monday.
He was found guilty as charged of sexual battery with a deadly weapon/physical force; false imprisonment while in possession of a weapon; and burglary with assault or battery while armed.
When the case went to trial last October, Walding told the jury the encounter was consensual.
But the woman, who has not been identified, told the jury the teenager broke into her home in the early hours of the morning carrying a knife.
he forced her to perform sex acts on her and said: ‘You really should deadbolt your door because I didn’t really want to do this but I had to do it.’
After it was over he allowed his victim to get dressed and they talked until he removed his mask and confirmed his identity, she told detectives.
When she asked him for his reasons he replied: ‘Obviously it wasn’t a spontaneous thing and I had this plan,’ court records show.
For the rape conviction, Walding received a mandatory minimum sentence of 50 years, with credit for nearly 18 months already spent in custody.
Under Florida state law, Walding has no prospect of early parole for good behavior.
Walding’s sentences for the other two counts will run concurrently, Circuit Court Judge Weiss said.
He has also has been listed as a sexual predator.
