Uproar and chaos occurred outside Adelaide’s youth court on Tuesday, after three teenagers charged with manslaughter were released from custody due to a paperwork error.
The three, aged 13, 14 and 15, had been charged following the death of care worker Lucy Paveley, 40, and were immediately re-arrested on the courthouse steps.
They were taken away by armed officers as shocked family members who had waited all day for their court appearance watched on.

Some family members expressed outrage at the way the boys were treated, with the mother of one calling on police not to hold his arms because he was ‘not resisting’.
A senior police officer at the scene offered no comment on the fate of the boys or whether they were to face the same or different charges.
A few minutes earlier a fourth boy, aged 15, had appeared in the Youth Court and was remanded in custody on a charge of aiding and abetting manslaughter.
The fifth person and only adult involved, Lyle Leonard Morrison, 18, also appeared in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
He was remanded in custody on a manslaughter charge and is expected to return to court in October.
All five were originally arrested on Monday regarding a crash on Sunday that claimed the life of the mother-of-two at suburban Parafield.

Lucy Paveley died in her mangled red Nissan Micra after it was allegedly hit around 6.30am Sunday by a white Mitsubishi Pajero.
The 4WD had allegedly been travelling double the speed limit and had reportedly been pursued by police earlier that night before the chase was called off.
The car slammed into the mother-of-two’s car at an intersection on Main North Road, before the occupants allegedly fled the scene in a black Mazda 3 sedan, also believed to be stolen.
The five offenders reportedly did not check on the 40-year-old following the crash, with Mrs Paveley driving to work at the time.

Mrs Paveley’s husband, eight-year-old daughter and seven-year-old son were consoled by friends and family on Monday at their Mawson Lakes home.
AnglicareSA released a statement saying they were devastated by Mrs Paveley’s death, describing it as a ‘senseless’ incident.
‘Lucy was a much-loved and valued member of the AnglicareSA Elizabeth Dutton Court team, where she worked as a care worker since 2013,’ a spokesperson said.
‘When a senseless accident like this occurs our thoughts are with the family affected as well as our residents here at AnglicareSA Elizabeth Dutton Court and our staff, Lucy’s friends and colleagues.’

Superintendent Anthony Fioravanti of the Traffic Support Branch said the police were not actively pursuing the stolen cars at the time of the crash.
‘When the crash occurred it was totally unbelievable and disgraceful how they crashed into this car at high speed,’ he said.
‘They jumped into another car and left the 40-year-old woman there in the car,’ he claimed.
‘Police were at the scene within a very short period however unfortunately the woman was deceased at the time they attended.’
