New Yorkers were breaking out the shorts and t-shirts on Wednesday, but are being warned not to throw their winter coats in the back of the closet just yet.
After a mild snowstorm over the weekend, people in the Big Apple were greeted to warm sunny weather by mid-week when temperatures reached nearly 80 degrees in some parts of New York.
However, things are expected to cool down very quickly. On Thursday, temperatures will be in the high 40s with a 90 per cent chance of rain.

According to the Weather Channel, ‘rain showers in the morning will evolve into a more steady rain in the afternoon’. The rain is expected to continue into Thursday night and early Friday morning.
Wednesday’s unusually warm temps broke several records throughout the Northeast.
Central Park broke its record for the warmest day in February when temperatures climbed to 78 degrees. The last time New Yorkers saw temperatures this warm in February was 88 years ago.
The mercury hit 68 degrees in 1930. The normal high for this time of year in New York is 43.
Newark, New Jersey also saw a record-breaking high when temperatures reached 80 degrees. The last time Newark saw weather so warm in February in Newark was in February 1949 when the high was 76.
Over in Hartford, Connecticut temperatures reached 74 degrees, breaking the city’s previously held record of 73 in February 1985.
Providence, Rhode Island was a little cooler than other areas across the Northeast but it was still shattering records. The National Weather Service tweeted that it was 64 degrees in Providence on Wednesday, the warmest day in February since 1930.

However, some residents in the region could be waking up to snow and sleet on Thursday.
A light wintry mix is expected to cross through southern New England during the mid-morning into Thursday evening while other New England areas will see a mix of snow, sleet and rain throughout the day.
Residents in Arlington, Virginia saw temperatures climb to 81 degrees, the highest in February since 1953. Temperatures in Baltimore reached 79 on Wednesday, shattering the previously held record of 74 in 1930.
