Terence Crawford heaps praise on ‘dangerous’ Tim Tszyu after stunning demolition of Carlos Ocampos… while former world champion claims Aussie star is the favourite to beat Jermell Charlo in blockbuster fight in October

Tim Tszyu’s demolition of Carlos Ocampos put the boxing world on notice, with Terence Crawford describing the Australian as ‘dangerous’.

Tszyu retained his WBO interim super-welterweight title by stopping Carlos Ocampos in just 77 seconds in a ferocious performance at the Gold Coast Convention Centre on Sunday.

Tszyu’s display was a chilling warning to undisputed world champion Jermell Charlo, whom he will fight before October 1 for the WBA, WBC, WBO and IBF belts.

‘I think that was a statement made,’ the Australian declared after the fight and the message was delivered loud and clear.

‘He’s dangerous,’ tweeted Crawford, a multiple world title winner across three weight divisions currently boasting a 39-0 record.

‘I respect Crawford a lot,’ Tszyu said when told about Crawford’s remarks post-fight.

‘He’s one of my favourite fighters actually. That’s pretty cool to see that he’s watching my fight.’

Tony Harrison, who was stopped by the Australian in nine rounds in Sydney in March, added: ‘That was impressive’.

Meanwhile, Aussie boxing great Jeff Fenech said on Main Event that Tszyu had been ‘outstanding’ in his demolition of Ocampos.

And former world champion Shawn Porter believes such was the confidence displayed by Tszyu that the Australian must be considered the favourite against Charlo.

That’s the key word right there – confidence. He’s on physically,’ he said on Main Event.

‘He’s growing in terms of his experience and in his mentality in the ring.

‘Knowing what you’re seeing and taking control where you can. Now his confidence is growing.

‘This is a big problem for Charlo. Look at all this momentum on the side of Tim Tszyu.

‘Everything’s on Tim’s side to win this fight.

‘I even guarantee that even from a standpoint of bookies, if bookies don’t put Tim as the favourite, they’re just favouring Charlo.

‘Tim Tszyu is now the favourite to win and become undisputed.’

For his part, Tszyu is clearly relishing the chance to land what would be a milestone victory in the US.

‘There’s no doubt I’m going to America, that’s the land I want to conquer,’ he said after the fight.

‘I’m not satisfied with his interim belt – I want all four and I want the name Charlo on my resume.

‘I did it quicker than your boy mate, so let’s dance in October.’
