Terrified mother-of-three opens up about the moment she was sexually assaulted in Melbourne

A woman has described the terrifying moment she was allegedly sexually assaulted by a man on a train during her morning commute.

Jill Perrett was travelling on a city-bound train from Thornbury station, in inner Melbourne, just after 9.30am on May 16 when she says she was repeatedly assaulted.

‘It was a crowded train. I was standing. I became aware of this man… because he was very, very close to me,’ Ms Perrett told media on Friday.

‘By the time we reached Clifton Hill I was very aware he was touching me on the back on my leg. I tried to move within the crowd to let him know I wasn’t happy with that.’

But the man allegedly continued to follow the 49-year-old through the carriage.

‘He continued to press up against behind me,’ Ms Perrett said.

Ms Perrett, who was on the train for about 30 minutes, alighted at Flagstaff Station and took the escalators, only for the man to follow her.

‘He followed me onto the platform and it just kept escalating until I was actually quite terrified, which is when I called 000,’ she said.

The mother-of-three said at one stage she had confronted the man after ‘he came right up along side me’.

‘I said ”Are you following me” and he made some comment about giving me a lap dance or something along those lines,’ Ms Perrett said.

‘I was quite afraid because I didn’t see anyone else get off (the train).’

She said she came forward to share her story because ‘enough is enough’.

‘Any behaviour to women, any time of the day, anywhere is not acceptable. We’ve got to call out these creeps,’ she said.

‘At the moment I won’t be catching a train for quite some time.’

Footage has been released of a man who police believe may be able to assist them with their enquiries into the alleged repeated sexual assault.

CCTV footage shows a man, believed to be about 20 to 25 years old, taking an escalator beside the 49-year-old before he hovered at the top and allegedly attempted to engage in conversation and follow her.

When she alerted train station staff the man left.

Police said the man was described to be of Islander or Asian appearance and about 160 centimetres tall with a slim build and thin moustache.

The man was wearing a New York Yankees baseball cap and baseball style jacket at the time.

Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers.
