This is the terrifying moment a pub landlord beat his elderly neighbour to a pulp as part of a long-running dispute over smelly bins.
Daniel Winward was caught on CCTV pushing Simon Procter, 70, to the ground and then pummelling him in a ferocious attack that left him needing 20 stitches to a deep head wound and severe cuts and bruises.
In the shocking footage, Winward, 44, a former commando who served three tours of duty on the front line in Iraq and Afghanistan, can be seen rushing up to Mr Procter as he stepped out of the front door of his home in Morecambe, Lancashire.
Seconds later, he unleashes around seven or eight severe punches on the pensioner as he lies helpless.
Mr Procter’s wife Tarni can then be seen rushing out of their home to try and stop the attack, but the ex-squaddie also hurls her to the ground.
When Mrs Proctor shouted at Winward to stop the attack because her husband was suffering from cancer because of this, he sneered: ‘Well, then he’s going to die anyway.’

After remonstrating with the couple, Winward follows them into their home where it emerged, he ransacked their living room, smashing a mirror, a sound bar, a TV and several ornaments, causing £1,000 worth of damage.
Earlier this week, Winward avoided jail at Preston Crown Court after it heard that he suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) which causes him to have a heightened perception of threat.
The court was told that a row had erupted between residents of Beecham Street, in Morecambe, and Winward, who runs the nearby Morecambe Hotel pub after he continued wheeling its commercial bins out on to the road, with neighbours complaining that they smelled.
Tensions had been running high for some time and at one stage the council even refused to collect bins on the street due to the hostility.
The attack on the pensioner happened after Winward returned from holiday in August 2022, when the landlord believed there had been a further row with a neighbour who said his bin was a fire risk.
Mr Procter told MailOnline that doctors thought he had been hit by a car when they saw his injuries.
He said: ‘My wife actually thought he was going to kill me.
‘She was scared for my life. I think she was more frightened than me. I was hurt, bleeding and worried about how much damage he was going to do but my wife thought he was going to kill me.
‘He didn’t just hit me five or six times, it was a lot more than that.’
Mr Procter, who was receiving treatment for bowel and prostate cancer added: ‘He did quite a lot of damage. When I went to hospital, they thought I’d been in a car crash.
‘My left eye was damaged, and I needed stitches externally and internally.’
Winward initially told police that he had rushed to help Mr Procter after finding him collapsed in the street – until CCTV footage unmasked his lies.
Mr Procter, a retired excavator said: ‘The whole street was annoyed that he was dragging his commercial bins out of the back of the pub. Everybody on the street was objecting. It’s a narrow street and it’s almost impossible to get a big wagon down here to the back of his pub.

‘That day, I came out of my house to get a push bike from my garage when he shouted towards me. I stopped and he walked up to me and hit me’
He added: ‘After he had beaten me up, he barged into another house looking for another neighbour, but he had the wrong house and luckily was pushed out of the house.
‘When he was arrested, he told the police that I had fallen over in the street, and he had rushed over to pick me up and helped me into the house because I was in a bit of a state. What really happened was he pummelled the hell out of me.’
Chris Hudson, defending Winward at Preston Crown Court said that since the attack he has been working with PTSD charity, Combat Stress, to help him with his mental health.
He added: ‘This is a damaged individual.’
‘He was damaged in the service of his country and that is significant. Everyone realises this got way out of hand, an argument about bins.
‘There will be no repetition of any of this and there will be no further problems.’
Winward must carry out 30 days of rehabilitation activity requirements and 150 hours of unpaid work as part of his punishment

He must carry out 30 days of rehabilitation activity requirements, 150 hours of unpaid work and pay £1,000 for the damage he caused and £1,000 compensation to the couple he attacked.
The judge also gave him a two-year restraining order and ordered Winward to pay £200 prosecution costs and a victim surcharge.
He said: ‘The condition you have would not be treated in prison and you would return to society with a pre-existing condition. You have strong personal mitigation and there is a realistic prospect of rehabilitation.’
