Terrifying moment savage thugs smash up a bottle shop in Melbourne

This is the terrifying moment a group of thugs smash up a bottle shop while the owner bravely fights them off.

Four men entered the family-owned bottle shop in Doveton, Melbourne at 6.30pm on Friday before things quickly got out of hand.  

In the video, most of the group stood around the store while one took a bottle to the counter. 

Owner Eddie Sawan ran to the front of the store after employee Jason Sawan pressed the panic button. 

As the the group tried to run away, the 64-year-old grandfather trapped one of them in a headlock. 

Two workers restrained the man on the floor and called police while another chased after the other youths with a baseball bat. 

The group then returned to collect their friend armed with wooden stakes and smashed the glass door.  

The store workers bravely fought off the hooded attackers in the doorway – and then chased them away.

‘There was a little war going on, bottles being thrown left, right, and centre,’ Mr Sawan said.  

‘We need to be able to protect ourselves. This is life and death now behind the registers,’ employee Mr Sawan told 9 News.  

The employee complained that police took about half an hour to arrive at his store. 

‘We just had to let them go and as a result they smashed up the shop,’ he said. 

It is the third time the store has been attacked this year – first by a knife wielding robber and then during a ram raid. 

Police are investigating the latest incident and urge anyone with information to contact Crimestoppers.
