The father of the 15-year-old was on his way to work when he became aware of the accident.

‘I ran there and then saw that it was my daughter’s bus,’ he said.

The footage showed a car on the opposite side of the track coming to a full stop at the intersection as the train approached the area. The bus then could be seen passing over the track when the train smashed into it.

The impact of the crash ejected at least four people out of the bus and left them lying near the side of the tracks.

At least one of the victims could be seen standing up and taking a few steps before falling to the ground and moving in pain.

‘We didn’t have much to do. Another six victims, including a teacher, were taken in serious condition to hospitals in the region,’ fire department chief Wallacy de Souza told RPC television.

‘He confirmed that he did not see the train approaching, and did not even hear a sound, even after a car had stopped on the other side of the street,’ police chief Carlos Paravidino told news outlet G1.

The Jandaia so Sul Civil Police is investigating the crash. The Institute of Criminalistics were also at the scene analyzing the accident and were looking into whether the train or bus were traveling at excessive speeds.

Paraná Acting Governor Darcia Piana declared three days of mourning.

‘The Paraná school community is in mourning with this serious accident in Jandaia do Sul,’ Piana said in a statement. ‘May God comfort the girls’ families and may the others soon recover from this accident. The Government of Paraná will do what it can to help these people.’
