Tesla Inc. is recalling 11,000 Model X SUVs worldwide because their rear seats might not lock into place.
The voluntary recall involves vehicles with fold-flat second row seats made between Oct. 28, 2016, and Aug. 16, 2017.
Tesla believes only about 3 percent of the recalled vehicles have the issue.
Elon Musk’s Tesla is recalling 11,000 Model X SUVs worldwide because their rear seats might not lock into place and could move forward in a crash.
Tesla says some cables in the seat may have been improperly tightened, which prevents the left seat from locking in an upright position.
If it’s not properly locked, it could move forward during a crash.
The Palo Alto, California-based automaker says it has seen no reports of injuries from the issue, which was discovered during internal testing.
Owners can take their Model X to a dealer for repairs or contact Tesla’s mobile repair units.
‘Tesla is taking a proactive action to ensure the safety of some of Model X owners who may need an adjustment to their second row seat,’ the firm said.
‘Model X has received the highest rating in every category and subcategory in independent safety tests conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, and we continue to conduct our own internal testing to ensure that Model X remains the safest SUV in the world.’
‘During recent internal testing, Tesla determined that a small number of cables in the second row fold-flat seats in some 2016 and 2017 Model X vehicles may need to be adjusted.

‘Although Tesla has not received reports of any issues or accidents relating to this condition, we will be conducting a voluntary recall to inspect the affected vehicles and confirm whether any adjustment is needed.
‘Although we have never seen any incidence of it in the field, internal testing has indicated that if the cable is not properly adjusted, the seat back on the left side of the second row seats could move forward during a crash.’
Tesla began informing customers about the recall Thursday, telling them in an email ‘There are no parts required for this inspection, and the adjustment will take only about 10 minutes to complete.
‘Until then, there is no issue with continuing to drive your Model X.
‘We just ask that you temporarily avoid having two adults sit in the second row left and center seating positions at the same time.’
