Tess Daly admits her job and looking after her first child almost led her to burnout

‘I was exhausted’: Tess Daly admits working and looking after her eldest daughter Phoebe, 18, almost led her to burnout

Tess Daily has revealed that working and looking after her first child almost led her to ‘burnout’.

The Strictly Come Dancing presenter, 54, had Phoebe, 18, with husband Vernon Kay in 2005, and admitted hosting the show and breastfeeding was tough.

Speaking to Psychologies Magazine, Tess, who was also recovering from a C-section, said: ‘That was the closest I’ve ever come to burnout.

‘I was lucky that I had a job to go back to, because the industry I work in is incredibly fickle.

‘But breastfeeding and live television are not the easiest things to manage, and on top of that the sleep deprivation was intense and debilitating.’

She admitted that she was physically and mentally exhausted although she was able to do her job and present live on television.

The experience left her in a different headspace as she was putting her all into looking after her baby and working and not replenishing herself too.

Tess also shares Amber, 13, with Vernon, and has been married to him for more than 20 years.

She stood by him in 2010 when he was caught texting another woman.

The television personality has revealed that life has not always been easy for her but she is grateful for where she is now.

It comes after Tess admitted she was ‘in denial’ earlier this month as she braced herself for a ‘big change’ in her family life.

Speaking on Loose Women, she said she ‘couldn’t believe’ her eldest daughter was now 18-years-old and knew change was imminent.

Tess explained how Phoebe will soon be leaving home to go to drama school but joked that she ‘didn’t want to think about it.’

Panellist Jane Moore said that she couldn’t believe how old her daughter was, with Tess replying: ‘I know, same, I’m in denial.’

She continued: ‘She’s not ever leaving, I can’t think about it,’ as she pretended to sob to the rest of the panel.

Last month, Vernon said he doesn’t want his children to live off his and wife Tess’ fame, insisting they form ‘their own careers.’

He told MailOnline he’s currently looking at drama schools to send Phoebe to where she can combine her passions for acting and business.

Unlike some showbiz couples, Vernon says himself and Tess believe it’s important for their offspring ‘to find themselves’ and not be given their ‘life on a plate’, crediting the pair’s Northern backgrounds for shaping their parenting beliefs.
