Tessa James runs the Queens Baton Relay in Melbourne

She announced the birth of her first child in a social media post on Friday.

And Tessa James showed no signs of slowing down on Saturday, hitting the pavement to run the Queen’s Baton Relay in Melbourne.

The 26-year-old, who overcame her battle with cancer three years earlier, proudly took part in the event which precedes the upcoming Commonwealth Games.

The former Home and Away star donned an official uniform as she took to the city streets to carry the historic Queen’s Baton.

She is one of hundreds of participants taking ‘more than a million steps’ to bring the Baton to its final destination: the Games’ Opening Ceremony on the Gold Coast.

The bubbly blonde beamed during her leg of the course, where she represented watchmaker Longines.

Just one day earlier, she posted a sweet picture of her husband, former NRL player Nate Myles, pushing their newborn’s pram to announce she had given birth. 

A source close to the couple confirmed to Daily Mail Australia both Tessa and her baby are ‘happy and healthy’, adding the couple are ‘over the moon’.

The sex of the baby remains unknown, but the couple are expected to release more information about their bundle of joy in the coming days.

The birth comes just three years Tessa was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma when she was only 23 years old. 

Her husband stood by Tessa’s side throughout the difficult health ordeal that followed, as she underwent chemotherapy to try and eradicate the disease.

Tessa, who shot to fame playing Nicole Franklin on Home And Away, first met Nate through their mutual friends Jodi Gordon and Braith Anasta in 2009.
