Texas mum heartbroken after no one shows up to daughter’s birthday party

A mum was left heartbroken when no children turned up to her little girl’s fifth birthday party, despite inviting her entire class.

Lex Fitzgerald, a mum-of-four from Texas, organised the party at a nearby burger restaurant for her daughter Willa, and decorated the table with treats and games.

But Lex was distraught when 20 minutes elapsed and no one showed.

A quick thinker, she jumped onto her phone and reached out to a local Facebook group asking if anyone was available to join.

Thankfully, several kind families nearby hastily arrived with wrapped presents in hand.

‘My little girl has been counting down the days until her birthday party. She’s been so excited to celebrate with all her classmates and friends,’ she wrote in a video.

‘Today finally came and after 20 minutes of waiting, no one had come to the party.’

In the clip, she included a heartbreaking image of little Willa sitting by herself at a long party table.

‘As a mum, my heart broke for my little girl as she sat there waiting for her friends to arrive,’ Lex continued.

‘We had invited her entire class, last years class, and friends we had made along the way and only 30 per cent had RSVP’d yes.

‘We figured a small party would be just as fun, but 20 minutes into waiting for friends to arrive, I realised it was possible that no one was going to show up.’

Lex didn’t want to have to tell Willa no one was coming to her birthday.

‘Not knowing what else to do, I reached out to my village and hoped maybe one or two families could come celebrate with us. In the most beautiful show of community, this happened.’

The short video then cuts to a crowd of people gathered around the once empty table to celebrate Willa.

‘The response was life changing,’ she said.

‘We went from not a single person at her birthday table to not a single table open. The entire restaurant was packed with families who refused to let my daughter celebrate alone.’

The video touched the hearts of thousands and brought a tear to the eye of other parents.

‘I’m sobbing at that little picture of her all alone in her precious rainbow outfit. I’m so happy people showed up for her,’ one wrote.

‘That is heartbreaking and beautiful at the same time. I’m so glad your community pulled together and showed up for Willa,’ another added.

‘Who says yes like that and just doesn’t show? Especially to a kids party. Unbelievable,’ a third said.

‘This is the reason we always try to go to any kids’ parties we are invited to! I would feel so bad for them not to have anyone at their party! I’m glad you were able to get people there,’ another wrote.
