Texas residents deal with an invasion of mosquitoes the size of a QUARTER

Enormous mosquitoes, some the size of a quarter, have been biting people in southern Texas.

Recent wet weather has made the area very attractive for mosquitoes to breed and as a result, the population has suddenly soared.

A reporter for ABC13, Steve Campion, said he and his photographer took to Twitter to describe their encounter with the itchy insects.

‘I can’t tell you how many mosquitoes swarmed and me. Every time we hit one there was blood.’   

Others have spotted giant mosquitoes in their cars or even insects the size of a quarter in people’s homes. 

Another reported noted that there were so many of them that ‘they could carry us away’. 

Apart from wearing deet on your skin which can help to repel the insects, others have suggested planting basil, lemongrass, rosemary, and marigolds in the yard which are one of a number of plants that will help  keep the insects away.
