Texas robber shoots dead Dollar General cashier

This is the horrific moment that a robber shot dead a mother of six as he robbed the Texas Dollar General she worked in.

Gabrielle Simmons, 27, was killed on Monday at around 7:05pm when an unidentified male entered the store and pulled a gun on her.

As the video shows, she complied with his demands – but he still pulled the trigger and fired the single shot that killed her, WFAA reported.

Robbery: This man shot and killed a 27-year-old mom of six in a Dollar General in Dallas, Texas, on Monday. He then fled, and police are continuing to search for him

Mom: Gabrielle Simmons (seen left and right with her kids and a friend), 27, was hit once in the chest, and died. Simmons’ kids are aged between seven months and 11 years old

Simmons was almost ready to leave for the night when the robber entered her store at 4807 Sunnyvale Street, Dallas, wielding a pistol.

He’s seen in overhead footage of the counter handing over a blue bag and demanding that Simmons fill it.

She does, stuffing the cash register tray into it, but as he grabs the bag to leave, he fires one shot, hitting her in the chest. It’s unclear if it was intentional.

The shot is difficult to see in the video, but as he flees, the counter can be seen being shoved violently to one side – presumably caused by Simmons hitting it as she slumped to the floor.

She was rushed to Baylor University Medical Center, but pronounced dead there.

Police say the suspect was a black male wearing cut-up jeans, a dark colored hoodie, a turquoise baseball cap, and black tennis shoes with a white sole.

The mom-of-six had moved from Mississippi to Texas to give a better life for her kids, police said on Tuesday.

Aris Joseph, the father of her children, told Fox 4 News: ‘Words just really can’t explain it, man… What I feel.’

Indicating his children, he said: ‘I have a seven-month-old girl… He’s 10… I have a six-year-old, a seven-year-old and the oldest is 11.’

He added: ‘Phones won’t stop ringing. Family and friends been around since they heard about it.

‘A lot of people came to the house. I never been through anything like this before.’

Fatal: The robber fired the fatal shot after Simmons (right) handed over all of the money. It's not clear whether the shooting was intentional or not; he fled immediately afterward

Shot: She was hit by the bullet a second after this grab was taken. It's hard to see the shot, but the counter jerks as the he leaves - possibly because of Simmons' body hitting it as she slumps

Simmons’ friend Jenin Ferond, who is also a member of the Kessler Heights Neighborhood Association, told WFAA she was ‘a beautiful, beautiful, person.’

‘We don’t know what to do, we are all in turmoil,’ Ferond added. ‘The fact that she has kids who are young, who are going to grow up and not actually know who she was as a person, it’s devastating.’

Another member of the association and friend of Simmons, Pat Ford, told Fox 4 News: ‘We’re trying to make sure they have plenty of food. The baby, we need diapers. We need baby food.

‘Just trying to make sure they don’t have to worry about finding enough to eat.’

In a statement, Dollar General said: ‘The Dollar General family is deeply saddened and heartbroken over the loss of our employee in Dallas. Our thoughts are with her family and friends.’

A sign outside the store on Tuesday said that it would be closed until further notice.
