One commuter tweeted: ‘Yet again TfL are useless at communicating their systems have crashed and can’t accept Apple Pay at the moment – I was let through the gates, but this will muck up people’s weekly capping.’
A Tube user said: ‘Apple Pay not working on TfL is a major inconvenience when it’s my only way of getting to work. Sort it out!’
Some Tube customers received early morning emails to inform them that their debit cards had been ‘declined by your card issuer’ so could not be used for travel.
One wrote: ‘First TfL send me an email this morning saying my card was declined. Bank says there is no issue.
‘Now apple pay was rejected at the barrier and no staff know what’s going on. Not a good start to the day!’
Accounts for London Underground lines all sent the same message this morning, which read: ‘Apologies – Apple Pay customers may experience some difficulties with their devices being read this morning.
‘We are aware of this issue and its being investigated.’
