That’s awkward! Former Man United youngster hilariously walks into the HOME dressing room on his Old Trafford return with Luton… before he sees the funny side of his mistake

  • One ex-Man United player found old habits die hard on his Old Trafford return
  • Security had a good laugh with him as he waltzed into the wrong dressing room
  • Man Utd are NOT good enough to have a ball-playing keeper – It’s All Coming Up

Old habits die hard and that was certainly the case when one former Manchester United player on his return to Old Trafford this weekend.

Luton Town made their first trip to Manchester United since 1991 and were narrowly beaten 1-0.

But there was reason for players to have a chuckle before the game when one of Rob Edwards’ players confusingly sauntered into the home dressing room.

Teden Mengi, who spent 14 years at Manchester United having emerged through their academy, was on auto-pilot when he got off the team coach.

He shook hands with security and then carried on towards the dressing room for Erik ten Hag’s players.

It was quickly pointed out to him that he was at Old Trafford as a visiting player these days and was in the wrong changing room, prompting a swift exit in the other direction.

Mengi was able to see the funny side in a clip that was captured by the BBC’s cameras for Match of the Day 2.

‘Teden Mengi, a former Manchester United player, forgot that he wasn’t still at Manchester United!’ said Mark Chapman, on the Match of the Day 2.

‘And he needed to come out the home dressing room and go over to the away one.’

Mengi shrugged off any previous allegiances when the whistle went as he put in a composed display in the narrow defeat.

At the end of the match Mengi nd fellow former United academy star Tahith Chong, who spent six years at United, both got a warm embrace from Ten Hag on the pitch.

‘I called United home for a very very long time, they’ve been family for a very long time but I’ve moved on to take a different route in my career, try and get to where I want in my career and that was the decision to come to Luton,’ Mengi said before the game.

Mengi, 21, looks right at home playing regularly in the Premier League, with his display against Liverpool catching the eye.

He came through the youth system at Old Trafford, representing the various age groups before progressing to the first-team, debuting for the club in August 2020.

Mengi made only two senior appearances for United spending time out on loan with Derby County and Birmingham City over the last few seasons.

Injuries hampered Mengi’s bid to establish himself at United, but the England U20 international always backed his ability to play regularly in the Premier League and he is taking that opportunity with Luton with a number of impressive displays for the Hatters.
