  • They then saw another one and also took creature on board to save it
  • Minutes late they came across a 60-kilogram boar and pulled it out of water

This is the incredible moment two fisherman saved a 60-kilogram boar from drowning in floodwater by pulling it on to their boat.

Andrew Illingworth and Dean Hutchison were fishing in the Adelaide River floodplains when they saw a wallaby struggling in the water.

They yanked the tired creature on board their boat before seeing another drowning wallaby and repeating the rescue.

‘He was pretty knackered that one; he’d taken a bit of water,’ Mr Illingworth told ABC radio’s Tales from the Tinny podcast.

Minutes later the pair then saw a boar struggling to stay afloat. With great effort, they managed to pull the 60-kilo beast to safety.

‘We had a look and he was pretty worn out but friendly and happy to get on board,’ Mr Illingworth said. ‘He wasn’t going to put up much of a fight.’

The fisherman said the animals were relaxed during the journey back to shore.

‘They got the second chance so they were happy,’ he said.
