Revellers waltzed back onto the streets last night to hit bars and clubs at the end of a month in which many went without alcohol.

Party-goers stumbled over their own high-heels, vomited and sat in the street as they hit the tiles in Birmingham and Blackpool, on the night the UK left the European Union.

A woman was also pictured being handcuffed while a man was photographed being led into a police vehicle.

One in ten Britons had taken on the dry January challenge, a survey from YouGov said, aiming to reset their relationship with alcoholic drinks.

The month of abstinence was pioneered by charity Alcohol Change UK in 2013, when it was launched nationally, and has since grown to more than four million participants.

Seven out of ten people that take part drink less riskily than before, a survey conducted by University of Sussex expert Dr Richard de Visser six months after dry January revealed.
