‘That’s why they call him COLD Palmer!’: Noni Madueke praises Cole’s cool finish for Chelsea’s third in win over Luton Town, alongside England star’s shivering celebration inspired by his friend at Middlesbrough

Cole Palmer’s cool finishing and shivering celebration won the praise of his Chelsea teammate Noni Madueke after their 3-2 win at Luton Town on Saturday.

Palmer picked up a brace in the Premier League clash, and he remained cool under the pressure to get the second with an ice cold finish, before a celebration which has earned him the nickname ‘Cold Palmer’.

Chelsea were 3-0 up at Kenilworth Road courtesy of Palmer’s two goals and one from Madueke, but Mauricio Pochettino’s side conceded two late goals, and had to hold on tight for all three points.

When Palmer was asked on TNT Sports how he remained composed for his second goal, the 21-year-old replied: ‘Just when I took it round the keeper, I thought the other guy was gonna come across fast, so if I waited a second, I’d have time to put it in.’

Madueke said: ‘That’s why they call him Cold Palmer, innit?’

On the shivering celebration, Palmer said his friend Morgan Rogers had done a similar one for Championship side Middlesbrough. He added: ‘I told him I’d do it.’

According to Opta, Palmer has been involved in 12 Premier League goals this season, scoring eight himself, and providing assists for four others.

The only player currently aged 21 or under who has been involved in more in Europe’s top five leagues so far in the 2021 season is Jude Bellingham, who has been central to 15 goals at his new club Real Madrid.

Palmer made a top-corner finish for his first goal at Kenilworth Road on Saturday, while his second involved the clever move to get around the Luton goalkeeper and the onrushing defenders.
