The app that will mean you’ll never return an online purchase again

Online shopping can be tricky – as it’s hard to know whether what you’re buying on the internet will look good in the flesh.

But now there is an app to make clothes buying that much easier.

Australian app, Shop You, is changing the game when it comes to finding clothes, by having you enter your style, body shape and favourite brands – and then matching items accordingly.

‘Finding clothes that fit and look good is difficult. In fact, only two in ten women actually enjoy shopping,’ the website reads.

‘Our mission is to be the most personalised, simple way for women to shop.’

The Shop You app uses artificial intelligence to enhance the shopping experience and the stylist personalises its recommendations, suggesting clothes that suit you.

The free app launched in February with brands such as Cotton On, Lorna Jane, Glassons, ASOS and Uniqlo already on board.

Soon brands like Nike, General Pants Co., Bonds and Karen Millen are also expected to join.

The app was founded by Emma Sharley and Kelly Slessor, who’ve drawn on their experience in the Australian marketing industry to recognise a gap in the market.

HOW IT WORKS

1. Download the app to your phone and create an account

2. Answer their questions about your style, favourite brands and body shape

3. Let them know what you’re looking for, be it style inspiration, new arrivals, sale items, etc

4. Add products to your wishlist or buy them through the app

‘We’ve spoken to about 1,000 24 to 45-year olds on what they wanted from their shopping experience,’ co-founder Emma told Smart Company.

The research they conducted included interviews, surveys and user testing and they also analysed 40,000 app reviews.

The duo discovered that 60 per cent of women believe that their personal style doesn’t represent who they are and 80 per cent believe their personal style is linked to their professional and personal goals.

‘It’s overwhelming. Most women have five to eight go-to brands in their wardrobe, so to shop with those brands online means going to five different websites,’ Slessor also told Whimn.

‘Many online fashion stores have poor search functionality and don’t provide the ability to search by occasion, yet 70 per cent of us shop for a specific event.’

The app aims to help users find an outfit for any occasion, be inspired by looks that suit them and to easily find fashion by category.

Cher Horowitz from Clueless was on to something with her computer app that helped pick her outfits in the morning.

Now the long-awaited wait for something similar is over.
