The owner of Carrie Bradshaw’s iconic apartment from the hit TV series Sex and The City has hit out at tourists, after they gathered outside the property to take selfies.

The outside of the New York building was used regularly to film scenes as the home of the show’s main fashion icon, and often attracts hoards of fans visiting New York.

Footage of the moment was captured by a passerby and later shared on social media, garnering over 260,000 views.

In the clip, the owner of the home speaks out to tourists gathered by the front steps, having apparently asked the group to disperse.

He can be heard saying: ‘I try not to do this but sometimes people cross a line. Thank you for understanding, have a great day.

‘And remember – this is not empty, it is a private home. And it is not Carrie’s, it’s mine.’

In the footage, the man then returns into the building, which is an 1866 brownstone in the West Village.

The video was taken on Monday and has since garnered thousands of likes and comments, as reported by What’s The Jam.

Comments included: ‘I love him. What a kind way to address them given he must be on his last nerve with this every day;’

‘Why are people going to a fictional characters house is beyond me;’

‘He was very respectful! Now respect his wishes!’

‘I bet Mr Big is in there with him;’

‘He’s absolutely right. He is nice. I really hope people respect his privacy;’

At the start of the year, the owner’s partner, who lives there with him, asked New York’s Landmarks Preservation Commission for permission to install a steel and cast iron gate at the bottom of the steps in a bid to keep away tourists.

She wrote in the application: ‘My home is now a global tourist destination.

‘They climb over the chain, pose, dance or lie down on the steps, climb to the top to stare in the parlour windows, try to open the main entrance door, or, when drunk late at night, ring the doorbells.’

The couple already have a ‘no trespassing’ sign placed on the bottom step of the property, but it hasn’t been enough to deter fans so far.

Sarah Jessica Parker curr stars alongside Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis in the spinoff series, which follows the SATC characters Carrie, Miranda Hobbes and Charlotte York in their 50s.

The show premiered on HBO Max in 2021, with the second season following in 2023.

Kim Cattrall, who played the sex-empowered Samantha Jones in the original, has not returned for the show, but she made a cameo in the season two finale.
