A frontrunner on Angie Kent’s season of The Bachelorette is set to quit the show in an upcoming episode after his grandmother died during filming.
According to a well-placed source, a producer told the contestant the sad news off camera in July and he immediately flew home for the funeral.
Daily Mail Australia understands the suitor filmed an emotional scene in which he told Angie of the tragedy and his decision to leave, but it is unclear if the conversation will be aired.

The insider said: ‘The news sent shockwaves through the show, but everybody understood and respected his decision to go and be with his family.’
During production, contestants are cut off from the outside world and have no access to mobile phones to interact with anybody back home.
Instead, a handful of their closest friends and family are given a contact person at production company Warner Bros. Australia in case of an emergency.

The contestant’s sad departure follows a string of unexpected exits this year.
During the show’s second episode, Angie kicked Noosa politician Jess Glasgow to the kerb for his ‘inappropriate remarks’ during a photo shoot-themed group date.
Warwick Adams later quit after being made to dress up in a chicken suit.

During Wednesday’s episode, Angie culled three hopefuls in a mass exodus: Scot Fuller, Adam Sellars and Tom Bowdidge.
